Skincare is more than your best serum

If I had a pull-string doll made of me, I guarantee one of the pre-recorded phrases would be "Everyone needs probiotics!". That's because I truly believe in the power of preventatively caring for your body, and one of the staples in my wellness routine for over 4 years now, that I simply could not live without, are probiotics.

If you're unfamiliar with what probiotics are, don't be discouraged- I didn't know either at one point. In super simple terms, a probiotic is a formulation of living microorganisms (think "good bacteria) that work to help balance the flora in your system, often the gut. By balancing your internal flora, you are allowing your body to perform at it's best capacity.

"But Bren, what does that have to do with skin?" Everything. You see, internal inflammation can lead to surface inflammation. Internal imbalance can lead to surface imbalance. Your gut holds the answers to so many of your greatest concerns, from skin to mental health and everything in between-- you just may see an improvement when you begin to care for your gut.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'll never tell you that one single anything is going to the be answer to all your problems. But in this special scenario, probiotics happen to be the answer to many problems. Before I started taking probiotics, I was constantly unwell in one way or another. I had a high-stress job working with middle to high-school aged students, so I was sick nearly every other week. Getting sick multiple times a month, often times being prescribed antibiotics when things got too bad for just some tea and soup, and living the life of "I'll sleep when I'm dead"really had my body basically begging for some support. It wasn't until I was hospitalized after a bad upper-respiratory infection that I decided- NEVER AGAIN.

Losing control of your body and how it's supposed to function can be such a vulnerable and powerless feeling. For me, that feeling led with disappointment. I couldn't believe that I was disrespecting my body so much. From that day on, I promised myself to show myself and my being the love it truly deserves, every single day. I can't express to you how much my life changed. I mean, every single thing in my life changed. My habits, my energy levels, my mental health, my digestion, my skin, my immunity--- I have not been sick since that hospital visit 4 years ago.

I first began for a year straight with a Women's Care Probiotic because if you're a woman who's been sick a lot and has taken antibiotics, you know that can lead to immense suffering in other departments. Once I saw the benefit of probiotics, I lost my mind in the best way possible. I became fully invested in the power of preventative care for my body and slowly but surely began to build my Organic Olivia arsenal. I am not exaggerating when I tell you I found a joy in life, I hadn't unlocked yet.

If you've stepped into my studio, followed me on Instagram or even had a simple conversation with me- chances are you've heard me rave about Olivia and her incredible business of bringing wellness to the world through the power of herbal knowledge and education. The faith I have in every single product I've used came organically and honestly. While I constantly restock on all the tinctures and supplements I've tried, the product I have not budged from in years is the Not Your Average Probiotic, a probiotic that boasts it's benefits of prebiotic, probiotic, and enzymes all within one capsule. To learn more about it, check out this post I created in 2020, raving about it.

I could go on and on about all the products I've tried from Organic Olivia, but in the spirit of skincare let me know if you would like to see a more curated list of the best products to consider if you're looking to assist your skin's health!
